Sabine Christmann
She studied at the State Art Academies in Karlsruhe and Stuttgart under Prof Peter Dreher and Prof Rudolf Haegele from 1981–86.
She then had numerous solo exhibitions, not only in Germany, but also in Vienna (Galerie Frey and Galerie Gans), in Paris (Galerie Charron) and in Seoul and Busan, South Korea (Gana Art Gallery).
Her work has been shown regularly at exhibitions in Germany and abroad, e.g. at Art Cologne, Art Miami, Scope New York and KIAF Seoul.
"In the still lifes, objects from the everyday world appear like characters on a stage. The ‘play’ they perform remains ambiguous and enigmatic.
Otherwise mostly unnoticed, the things in the picture are detached from their context of use and can be seen as aesthetic objects in all their beauty.
Both the painting itself, which can be sensually experienced in its materiality in the surface stimuli, and the preoccupation with my own perception are of central importance to me."
